Wildflower Festival

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe Sunshine Coast Wildflower Festival was held from 17 to 31 August 2014 and we hosted two walks, in Ben Bennett Botanical Park, on Sunday August 24, and Lake Currimundi Kathleen McArthur Conservation Park on Thursday August 28.  In spite of the rainy weather on the 24th there was a good turn out of interested people, all prepared with raincoats, umbrellas and gumboots and, because of the rain over the last two weekends the wildflowers put on a great show. There was even water in the small pond and the frogs were in full voice! The flowers in Kathleen McArthur Conservation Park had also benefited from the rain, and the Leucopogun pimeleoides and Aotus lanigera were a mass of colour. The walk in the Kathleen McArthur Park also coincided with the launch of the Sunshine Coast Council’s little full colour wildflower “Z” card, a handy pocket guide with maps of  wildflower areas and the flowers themselves
