Congratulations must go to the Gold Coast & Hinterland Branch, who organised such a successful State AGM and Southern Branches Get-together, to coincide with their 50th Anniversary, at Couran Cove Resort on South Stradbroke Island, on the weekend of 12/14 September. Because it was such a special occasion they spared no effort to ensure that everyone had a relaxing time, apart from the formalities of the AGM, and we were very appreciative of their hard work. No dormitory accommodation this time, instead attendees were accommodated in luxurious villas and provided with a hamper of breakfast making goodies to enable a leisurely start to the day. Early morning bird walks were entirely optional!
The Get-Together ran very smoothly, apart from a small hiccup on the first evening when there was some confusion over the venue for pre-dinner drinks and nibblies and guests had a walking tour of more areas of the resort than they intended! Unfortunately, the weekend finished on a sombre note, with speakers painting a disastrous picture of continuing elimination of protection for all aspects of the environment under ever increasing legislative changes.
